When I think of the character Myrtle Wilson, I think of an individual who is desperate for love. Throughout the novel, Myrtle strives to be someone she is not. She is willing to cheat on her husband, so she can live a life with the wealthy, Tom Buchanan. I placed an American flag on Myrtle's page because I think Myrtle constantly tries to achieve the American dream as she desperately wants to be wealthy. Throughout the novel, she loves Tom Buchanan and that is why I placed the picture of that young couple from the Roaring Twenties. I placed a picture of land because I feel that Myrtle seeks more and more in her life, and is never content with what she has. When I think of Myrtle, I think of love and affection, as she is either loving Tom or her husband, George Wilson. Finally, when I think of Myrtle I think of a red shiny car as she is on a particular path due to her mistakes made throughout the novel.
In Myrtle's words:
I chose the American flag to represent myself as I am a proud American and I believe that I can rise from rags to riches (even if that means I sacrifice my morals and values for the dreamy Tom Buchanan). I chose the young, happy couple as I am so happy with Tom Buchanan. Tom promises me things that George cannot. Tom provides me with glamorous things and twinkling jewelry that George cannot. I chose an image of vast land as I believe that I am able to achieve anything! I chose an image of several hearts as my heart belongs to many individuals. And finally, I chose the picture of a car as it symbolizes what I strive to be. I want to be wealthy and fancy. I want people to look at me and realize that I have both money and power.
